DCI Links Justice Aggrey Muchelule Pistol to Viral Westlands Restaurant Robbery | BossNana International Radio

Detectives have linked a Beretta pistol recovered after a fatal shootout with a violent robbery suspect in Joska, Machakos County, to Court of Appeal Judge Justice Aggrey Muchelule.

On July 14, Muchelule told police that he only realized his firearm, an unlicensed Beretta pistol with serial number H20930Y, was missing from his heavily secured Kitusuru home after investigators contacted him. He said the police informed him that the pistol had been seized in Athi River South Sub-County on Monday evening, July 13, 2026.

In a report recorded at the Spring Valley police station, Muchelule stated that he does not usually carry the firearm.

The police report says, “He further stated that the last time he physically checked it was in October 2025, when he intended to renew his firearm license. However, he later forgot to complete the renewal process.”

Investigators now believe the firearm was among the weapons criminals used to stage a robbery at the Chaiiwali restaurant on General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, on July 4.

The development followed a joint operation by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who tracked a key suspect, Vincent Ochieng, to a residential hideout in Joska.

Police say Ochieng belonged to a dangerous criminal ring that operates across Nairobi, Kiambu, and Machakos. They report that he died in a fierce exchange of fire after he barricaded himself inside the house and opened fire on officers as they moved in.

Officers say he left behind a loaded Beretta pistol, extra ammunition, and several mobile phones.

Detectives from the DCI Criminal Research and Investigation Bureau later confirmed that the firearm belonged to Court of Appeal judge Justice Aggrey Muchelule. Investigators have since launched a detailed probe to establish how the weapon left the jurist’s custody.

A detective close to the investigation told reporters, “Yes, this weapon was identified as the one used in the July 4, 2026, robbery of the Chaiiwali Café in Westlands.”

During that robbery, masked gunmen stormed the establishment and terrified patrons inside before stealing valuable electronic devices. Surveillance cameras recorded the incident, and the resulting footage quickly went viral, triggering public outrage and prompting a high-priority forensic effort to recover the stolen items and trace the gang’s movements.

Although Justice Muchelule said he did not know about the security breach at his home until police informed him, the firearm still requires further specialized ballistic testing. Investigators are also working to determine whether the pistol links to other unsolved crimes as a manhunt intensifies for Vincent Ochieng’s surviving accomplices.

Police say they remain determined to dismantle armed gangs across Nairobi and other counties, including Kilifi, Nyanza, Western, and beyond. They are carrying out the operation through a multi-agency effort coordinated from the DCI headquarters.
