Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has laid out an ambitious, multi-decade roadmap to State House, declaring she will eventually become Kenya’s first woman president. Her unconventional path to the top, however, runs directly through a long-term partnership with a current political rival, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, Nyamu mapped out a highly specific political timeline culminating in her presidency in 2052. She projects that Sifuna will assume the role of opposition leader following the 2027 general election, a mantle she expects him to hold for the next 15 years.
According to her forecast, the embattled ODM Secretary General will launch unsuccessful presidential bids in 2032 and 2037, losing both matchups to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
A Decade in the Trenches, Then a Comeback
Despite those predicted defeats, Nyamu believes the successive campaigns will serve as a political crucible for Sifuna. By the time the country goes to the ballot in 2042, she argues he will have achieved the political maturity needed to win the presidency.
Nyamu expects to be equally ready for the national stage by then, predicting that Sifuna will select her as his vice presidential running mate for a two-term tenure that will ultimately prime her to take the steering wheel herself.
Under Nyamu’s blueprint, a 2027 loss to President Ruto would actually launch Sifuna into a powerful five-year term as the official opposition leader. She views this period as a critical training ground for the Nairobi senator to keep the government in check, sharpen his political instincts, and build a genuinely national movement.
Even a subsequent loss to Kindiki in 2032 would not derail the plan. Instead, Nyamu believes another decade in the opposition trenches would allow Sifuna to grow both politically and emotionally, setting up what she predicts will be a triumphant return in 2042.
“In that scenario, Sifuna probably comes second to President Ruto in 2027 and becomes Official Opposition Leader from 2027 to 2032. That’s a powerful platform. keeping government in check, sharpening his politics, and building a national movement.
“He tries again in 2032 and loses to Kindiki, spends another decade as Opposition Leader growing politically and emotionally, and returns stronger in 2042. By then, he will make me his running mate. We win by 8:00 a.m,” Nyamu claimed.
The Handover, According to Nyamu
The duo would then govern together for a decade, according to Nyamu, before Sifuna steps aside to let her make history.
“We continue building on the foundation and achievements Ruto and Kindiki laid for the country, and in 2052, he gracefully hands over to me, and Kenya gets its first woman president,” she stated.
Nyamu Calls Sifuna a Coward Despite the Alliance
Despite designing this elaborate future partnership, Nyamu did not spare her colleague from sharp criticism. She took a swipe at Sifuna, labeling him a coward who doubts his own ability to face President Ruto directly on the ballot.
This deep-seated cowardice, she argued, explains why Sifuna continues to align himself with leaders whom she claims the Kenyan electorate has already rejected.
To rescue his political future, Nyamu advised Sifuna to abandon his internal party battles to remain ODM Secretary General. She urged him to instead market himself directly to the electorate, arguing that millions of Kenyans are actively searching for a fresh, independent alternative to the current political status quo.
