Over 580,000 TikTok Videos Removed in Kenya in Just Three Months | BossNana International Radio

TikTok pulled down more than 580,000 videos in Kenya between July and September last year after finding they breached its Community Guidelines, according to its latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. The figures highlight the platform’s intensified content moderation efforts in the country as concerns around online safety and harmful content continue to grow.

Proactive Content Moderation in Kenya

The report shows that TikTok detected and removed 99.7 percent of the offending videos in Kenya before users had a chance to report them. It also acted swiftly, deleting 94.6 percent of the flagged content within 24 hours of posting.

During the same period, the platform shut down about 90,000 live sessions for violating its rules. Those interruptions accounted for roughly one percent of all live streams conducted on TikTok in Kenya, signaling tighter oversight of real-time broadcasts.

Over 204 Million Videos Removed Worldwide

Globally, TikTok took down more than 204 million videos in the third quarter, representing about 0.7 percent of all uploaded content. The company detected and removed 99.3 percent of those videos before users reported them, while it eliminated 94.8 percent within 24 hours of posting.

TikTok credited much of this efficiency to its automated moderation systems, which identified and removed 91 percent of the violative content during the reporting period.

“This is one of the highest rates ever recorded by TikTok for rapid content removal. Through our continued investment in AI moderation technologies, a record 91 percent of this violative content is now removed via automated technologies, ensuring consistency and speed,” the company said.

Crackdown on Fake and Underage Accounts

Beyond video removals, TikTok also targeted suspicious accounts to protect platform integrity. The company deleted more than 118 million fake accounts worldwide and removed over 22 million accounts suspected to belong to users under the age of 13.

“By integrating advanced automated moderation technologies with the expertise of thousands of trust and safety professionals, TikTok ensures swift and consistent enforcement of content that violates its Community Guidelines,” the platform said.

“This approach is vital in ensuring we provide a safe platform for our community, as we uphold our policies against harmful content, including misinformation, hate speech, and other violations.”

New Digital Well-being Tools for Users

In November, TikTok introduced a new Time and Well-being hub featuring tools designed to promote healthier digital habits. The platform also launched four new Well-being Missions aimed at encouraging more mindful and confident use of technology, particularly among teenagers.

The latest enforcement report forms part of TikTok’s broader transparency initiative. By publishing detailed data on content removals, live stream interruptions, and account enforcement actions, the company seeks to show how it polices harmful content and strengthens online safety across its global platform.
