The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended several public transport operators after uncovering widespread non-compliance with safety regulations and repeated traffic violations that put passengers and other road users at risk.

In a notice issued on Monday, NTSA said the affected operators breached key conditions governing public service vehicles. The authority found that the operators failed to meet safety standards set out under the Traffic Act and NTSA regulations. Some of the companies also recorded fatal road crashes during the December 2025 festive season, raising serious concerns about their safety practices.

NTSA announced that the suspensions take effect immediately as part of intensified enforcement measures across the public transport sector.

Guardian Coach Limited

NTSA cited Guardian Coach Limited following a road accident that occurred on January 6, 2026, at the Kimende area along the Nairobi–Naivasha Road.

The authority directed the company to present 24 vehicles flagged with various violations for compliance inspection at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre and submit the inspection report to NTSA.

In addition, NTSA suspended the driving licences of 18 drivers found to have violated speed limits for a period of 90 days. The affected drivers will be required to undergo a re-test before resuming duty.

The company has been given 21 days to comply with all directives. NTSA warned that failure to meet the conditions will lead to the revocation of its operating licence.

Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd

NTSA ordered Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd to present 128 vehicles with various violations for compliance inspections at the Nyeri Motor Vehicles Inspection Centre and submit the findings to the authority.

The regulator also suspended the licences of 26 drivers involved in speed violations for 90 days pending a mandatory re-test.

The company has 21 days to comply, with NTSA cautioning that non-compliance will result in the cancellation of its operating licence.

Greenline Company Ltd

NTSA directed Greenline Company Ltd to present all 33 vehicles with recorded violations at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.

The authority suspended 29 drivers’ licences for exceeding speed limits and resolved to suspend the company’s operations until it fully meets regulatory requirements.

Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd

Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd was ordered to present 128 vehicles with various violations for compliance inspections at the Likoni and Machakos Motor Vehicle Inspection Centres and submit the inspection report to NTSA.

The authority suspended the licences of 18 drivers for 90 days due to speed violations and resolved to halt the Sacco’s operations until full compliance is achieved.

Uwezo Coast Shuttle

NTSA suspended Uwezo Coast Shuttle from all operations after the company failed to honour summons issued by the authority. The suspension will remain in force until further notice.

Monna Comfort Sacco

NTSA ordered Monna Comfort Sacco to present all 19 vehicles with violations at the Nakuru Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.

The authority also suspended the licences of 26 drivers who breached speed limits and resolved to suspend the Sacco’s operations.

Stricter Enforcement Ahead

NTSA said the suspensions form part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents involving public transport vehicles. The authority warned that operators who disregard safety requirements pose a serious danger to passengers and other road users.

“The Authority will not hesitate to take decisive action against operators who compromise the safety of the public,” NTSA said, adding that enforcement operations targeting non-compliant matatus and buses will continue countrywide.

NTSA directed all suspended operators to cease operations until they fully comply with the law, warning that further violations could attract tougher penalties, including de-registration. The authority also advised members of the public to avoid boarding vehicles belonging to suspended operators and urged passengers to verify the status of public service vehicles before travelling.

The latest suspensions come as NTSA intensifies its campaign to restore discipline, compliance and safety within Kenya’s public transport sector.
