KNEC Moves to Stop Fake KJSEA Results as Grade 9 Transition Begins | BossNana International Radio

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a strong warning to schools and members of the public against circulating misleading and fake analyses of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results, saying such reports are inaccurate and contradict official assessment guidelines.

In a statement released on Monday, KNEC urged institutions to stop publishing fabricated analyses that falsely suggest the existence of aggregate scores or school mean grades under the new assessment system.

“We urge schools to stop misleading the public with fake and inaccurate KJSEA results analysis. Unlike the former system, KJSEA does not provide an aggregate score. Why? Because CBC is about nurturing individual potential, not ranking learners,” the council stated.

KNEC explained that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) assesses each subject independently and reports learner achievement using clearly defined performance levels rather than cumulative numerical totals.

“This approach ensures that a child’s excellence in one subject is not overshadowed by weaker performance in another. There is, therefore, no school mean score as is depicted in the attached fake analysis,” the council added.

Fake KJSEA Analyses Spark Alarm

The warning follows the circulation of fabricated results analyses by some institutions, including St. Vincent De Paul Boys’ School, which misrepresented learner outcomes by assigning aggregate scores and school mean grades. KNEC stressed that the official KJSEA framework evaluates performance using four standardized levels: Exceeding Expectations, Meeting Expectations, Approaching Expectations, and Below Expectations.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba officially released the 2025 KJSEA results on December 11, 2025, at New Mitihani House in Nairobi. The assessment covered 1,130,459 Grade 9 learners, marking the first cohort under the CBC system to transition to senior school pathways in STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere explained that learner performance draws from a blended assessment model. The system allocates 20 per cent from the Grade 6 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), 20 per cent from school-based assessments conducted in Grades 7 and 8, and 60 per cent from the summative KJSEA examination.

“This comprehensive approach focuses on individual competencies rather than competitive totals, marking a clear shift from the previous 8-4-4 system,” Njengere said.

Placement Assurances for Parents and Learners

The Ministry of Education has assured parents and guardians that the country has sufficient institutional capacity to absorb all learners and promised a transparent placement process into senior schools. Officials expect placements to conclude by December 20, 2025, with learners reporting to their respective institutions on January 12, 2026.

Learners can access their KJSEA results online through the Ministry of Education portal or via SMS by sending their assessment number to 22263 at a cost of Ksh30.

Cabinet Secretary Ogamba confirmed that all candidates will transition to senior school in 2026. Under the CBC system, each subject is graded out of eight points, with overall performance classified as Exceeding Expectations (EE), Meeting Expectations (ME), Approaching Expectations (AE), or Below Expectations (BE). The summative assessment included written papers, practicals, and projects, with some subjects requiring two papers to accommodate practical components.

KNEC cautioned that misleading analyses of KJSEA results undermine the core principles of the CBC and risk confusing parents and learners.

“Unlike the former system, KJSEA does not provide an aggregate score. Each subject is assessed independently, and learners’ achievements are reported using performance levels, not totals,” the council reiterated.
