The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened 24,000 internship slots for junior school teachers.
The commission, in an announcement published on Tuesday, August 26, directed interested candidates to submit their applications through its online portal by Monday, September 9, noting that it will not receive manual applications.
Eligibility Requirements
The internship targets qualified and registered teachers who are currently unemployed. To qualify, one must:

Be a Kenyan citizen.

Hold a diploma in education.

Have a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE.

Score at least C+ in two teaching subjects.
TSC confirmed that successful candidates will serve in junior schools for one year and will receive a monthly stipend of Ksh20,000, subject to statutory deductions.
“The Teacher Internship Programme is a one (1) year programme meant to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service,” TSC stated.
Documents Required During Application
Applicants will be required to present their original academic and professional certificates during the application process. They must also have a valid personal accident insurance cover to cater for personal risks during the internship.
During verification, candidates must provide:

Teacher Registration Certificate.

National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable).

National Identity Card (ID) or Passport.

Two recent passport-size photographs.

KRA PIN certificate.
The commission warned applicants against submitting more than one application, noting that successful candidates will be posted either to the sub-county where they were interviewed or to any school within the county where vacancies exist.
“Successful individuals shall be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior school curriculum,” TSC stated.
TSC said the internship will equip the teachers with mentorship, coaching, and classroom teaching experience to equip teachers with practical skills that will prepare them for a successful teaching service career.
The commission once again confirmed that the application process is completely free and warned applicants to beware of conmen posing as TSC recruitment agents.
“Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office or Teachers Service Commission headquarters through the following telephone lines: Director Staffing (0302893193) and Deputy Director Staffing (0202892131) or write to the Commission through the email address dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke,” it stated.
