NACADA Shifts Alcohol Licensing to eCitizen-Linked Online System | BossNana International Radio

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has announced changes in how it will process import and export licences for alcoholic beverages.

Starting October 1, 2025, all license and consignment permit applications will be processed through the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System, or Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP), which is run by the Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade).

NACADA stated the move is in line with a government-wide approach to streamlining trade processes and increasing regulatory oversight. In moving its licensing services onto the online platform, NACADA aims to bring centralization, automation, remove paperwork, decrease delays, and increase transparency in the clearance of alcoholic beverages and ancillary products.

“NACADA Moves to Streamline Alcohol Trade Licensing Through Digital Platform,” the authority announced in a statement on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

NACADA clarified that the transition will not affect existing fees and charges for licensing. All payments will still be made through the eCitizen platform, which is already integrated into the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP).

The agency also made assurances to stakeholders that pre-transition date licences will remain in force until the time of expiration. Details on these licences will be uploaded into the new system to help undertake seamless, automated issue of consignment documents and online release of cargo. The action aims at replacing the traditional manual clearance procedure, which has in the past been faulted for being inefficient and opaque.

“All fees and charges related to licensing will remain unchanged and continue to be governed by the existing legal provisions; payments will continue to be made exclusively via the eCitizen platform (which is integrated in the TFP),” NACADA added.

The authority appealed to importers, exporters, clearing agents, and cooperating government agencies to familiarize themselves with the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System prior to implementation. It also committed to provide support to ease onboarding.
