Eastleigh Building Collapse: DPP Reveals Missing Inquiry File From Nairobi County | BossNana International Radio

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the collapse of a multi-storey building in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

In a statement issued on October 26, 2026, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the investigation would establish what caused the collapse, which injured people, damaged property, and left others missing. It warned that authorities will act against anyone found responsible.

The ODPP said the Nairobi City County Government had not sent it an inquiry file on possible wrongdoing by the developer, construction professionals, or county officials involved in the project.

“As of the date of this statement, no inquiry file relating to the construction of the building has ever been forwarded to the Office by the Nairobi City County Government,” the statement said.

Investigators will examine whether the actions or omissions of county officials, the developer, contractors, or other professionals involved in planning, approving, supervising, and building the property contributed to its collapse.

The ODPP said it would take prosecutorial action against anyone found criminally responsible, regardless of their position or status, if the evidence supports a case.

“Where sufficient evidence establishes criminal culpability, the ODPP shall take the necessary prosecutorial action against any persons found responsible, irrespective of their position or status,” the office said.

The office expressed sympathy for those injured and people who lost property. It also warned developers, contractors, construction professionals, and public officials not to disregard building regulations, safety standards, or statutory approval requirements, adding that authorities would deal with any conduct that amounts to a criminal offense.

The ODPP reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, the rule of law, and the independent exercise of its constitutional mandate. It said it would continue working with investigative agencies to pursue cases that warrant prosecution.
