A man has appeared before the Milimani Law Courts on three counts of cyber harassment. Prosecutors allege that John Vianney Onyango, also known as “Jay Vee Ke,” published defamatory content against Kisumu Senator Professor Tom Ojienda on Facebook.
Onyango allegedly posted messages and videos on his Facebook page claiming that relief food distributed through Prof. Ojienda’s office had been mismanaged. He further alleged that residents raised concerns over contaminated maize flour.
According to the charge sheet, Onyango allegedly posted on April 14, 2026, a video captioned to suggest that an elderly woman had been brought to tears over alleged cons linked to Ojienda’s office.
In a second count, prosecutors allege that he posted on April 16, 2026, claiming that residents of Kisumu Central went hungry due to alleged political interference in the distribution of relief food.
The prosecution also alleges that on April 29, 2026, Onyango published a video in which he claimed that residents had called for investigations into allegedly contaminated maize flour. The State says the flour was distributed through Prof. Ojienda’s office and coordinated by a county official.
The State argues that Onyango knew, or should have known, that the posts would harm Prof. Ojienda’s reputation. It cites Section 27(1)(b) as read with Section 27(2) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.
Speaking to the court, Senator Tom Ojienda said Onyango has allegedly made a habit of publishing similar content.
“That is what he does. We are not dealing with one post; he will be here many times,” Ojienda said.
The senator also alleged that the accused created and published the posts himself, insisting that the claims on the Facebook page were false.
The court released the suspect on Ksh. 50,000 bail.
