Officers from Parklands Police Station moved quickly to stop a suspected burglary operation and arrested key suspects believed to be behind a string of break-ins in Parklands and surrounding areas.
The incident reportedly played out on Sunday at about 2:20 p.m., when a resident of Parklands Court Limited returned from errands and noticed a suspicious black Nissan X-Trail with registration number KDK 162E parked inside the compound. Four people in the vehicle claimed they were delivering a parcel contained in a khaki envelope. They also arrived with a security guard attached to Delta 7 Security, Dorine Linda Imodia.
The resident became suspicious, raised an alarm, and blocked the vehicle from leaving. He signaled security personnel to secure the gate, but the guards did not respond. The suspects then fled on foot and left the vehicle behind.
Parklands Police officers responded promptly and carried out an extensive search within and around the compound. During the operation, they arrested Lavender Akinyi Ogilo, a suspect previously linked to several break-in cases in the area. She had disguised herself in a Muslim hijab and attempted to board an Uber outside the compound.
Later, investigators reviewed CCTV footage, which showed that Ogilo arrived with the occupants of the abandoned Nissan X-Trail. The footage also indicated that she stepped out outside the premises while the other suspects entered the compound. Officers later recovered a headscarf matching her hijab inside the suspect vehicle, strengthening the case linking her to the group.
Subsequent interrogation indicated that Lavender Ogilo acted together with the four suspects who escaped. Police also arrested two security guards, Levis Kirui Chenemai and Dorine Linda Imodia, and the officers now have them assisting investigations as police continue to probe their possible role in the incident.
A detailed search of the abandoned vehicle turned up several items police believe could link the suspects to criminal activities. Officers recovered a khaki bag, a black bag, a sweater, a Y-spanner, assorted screws and metal crowbars, various motor vehicle ignition keys, a CCTV camera, a computer mouse, a surveillance disk, and a pair of registration plates marked KDQ 604L.
Police also found inconsistencies about the vehicle’s identity. Preliminary checks showed that KDK 162E belongs to a Toyota Crown saloon, not the Nissan X-Trail that officers found at the scene.
Police towed the Nissan X-Trail to Parklands Police Station. Detectives continue to investigate to determine the full scope of the suspects’ activities, identify any additional accomplices, and assess whether the recovered items connect to other criminal incidents in the city.
Police have kept the suspects in lawful custody while the investigations and legal processes continue.
