Missed the KUCCPS Deadline? Here’s Your Second Chance to Secure a University Spot | BossNana International Radio

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened a fresh window for students to refine their career paths. While the current application portal officially shut down at midnight on May 6, 2026, the agency is already preparing a second opportunity for those still navigating the process.

On Wednesday, May 6, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome confirmed that students who missed the first deadline or fail to clinch a spot in the first round can try again. This upcoming revision period will run from May 16 to May 22, 2026, allowing applicants to update their course selections based on available slots.

Wahome clarified that reopening the portal next week serves as a safety net to ensure every eligible learner finds a place in a higher learning institution.

“For those who may not meet today’s deadline or fail to secure their initial choices, there will be a second chance: No student will be left behind,” said Wahome.

Following the midnight shutdown, the service will process the current batch of data before inviting students back for the next phase.

“Following the closure of the portal tonight, we will process applications and then re-open for a Second Revision from May 16 to May 22, 2026, for those who may need to adjust their choices,” Wahome added.

The announcement serves as a final alert to 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to submit their forms before the window slams shut. While over 80 percent of students have successfully picked their preferred courses, the CEO expressed concern over a significant group that has yet to cross the finish line.

Specifically, Wahome pointed out that many applicants have merely saved their selections in the “course basket” without actually submitting them. She clarified that merely browsing and saving options does not count as a formal application.

“Adding programmes to the course basket is not an application. You must complete the process and submit your choices before the midnight deadline,” she reiterated.

KUCCPS reported that by the morning of May 6, approximately 207,308 candidates had successfully submitted their applications. This figure represents 77 percent of the 268,714 students who reached the minimum university entry requirement of C+.

To ease the minds of nervous parents and students, the agency confirmed that the country has more than enough space to accommodate every learner. This year, the portal features 508 institutions, including universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, which offer a massive combined capacity of over 1.4 million slots.

The breakdown of these opportunities includes the following:

  • University Slots: 322,396 available positions.

  • TVET Slots: More than 1.1 million available positions, providing vast options for students at various academic levels.

As the initial phase wraps up, KUCCPS continues to push all eligible students to finalize their submissions immediately. Completing these applications now is vital before the agency moves into the processing stage and prepares for the second revision window.
