A 25-year-old man died after suffering an electric shock while reportedly attempting to enter a bar through the roof in Kathiani.
Police said the incident occurred at a bar located in Mukukuni Market, in Muonyweni Village, where officers later discovered the body of Stephen Ndeto Kyalo lying on top of the building.
According to preliminary police findings, the bar attendant had already closed the establishment’s doors at around 11:20 p.m. on Friday night. At the time, one last customer remained inside, completing payment for his bill.
Moments later, the attendant and the customer heard disturbing noises coming from above the bar’s roof. The sounds quickly turned into what they described as a struggle followed by screams.
Alarmed, the two stepped outside to investigate.
Their search led them to the rooftop, where they found the lifeless body of the 25-year-old man. Police believe the victim had attempted to gain entry into the bar through the roof after discovering the main door had already been locked.
Investigators say the man likely climbed onto the roof in an attempt to force his way into the building. During the climb, he reportedly came into contact with an exposed live electrical wire.
The shock proved fatal, killing him instantly at the scene.
Crime scene officers later arrived to document and process the area as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident. Authorities then moved the body to the mortuary at Kangundo Level IV Hospital, where pathologists will conduct a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Following the incident, police urged property owners and business operators to inspect their premises and repair any exposed or faulty electrical wiring.
Authorities warned that poorly maintained wiring can create serious safety hazards, not only for workers and customers but also for members of the public who may come into contact with live electrical lines.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
