‘Wamunyoro Siendi’ – Waiguru Responds to Gachagua’s Remarks | BossNana International Radio

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has hit back at remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed that Mwea rice farmers are struggling due to a lack of market for their produce.

In a strongly worded statement shared on her official X account on Monday, February 2, 2026, Waiguru dismissed the claims and set the record straight on the status of Mwea rice and the welfare of farmers in Kirinyaga County.

According to the governor, the situation on the ground does not reflect the picture painted by Gachagua. She said the National Government has already taken up all Mwea rice stocks, clearing stores and guaranteeing farmers’ earnings.

“I usually do not respond to petty allegations, recognising that not every provocation deserves the dignity of response, but on this one, allow me to bring to the attention of @rigathi that we have no issue with Mwea rice and to clarify that the National Government has already uptaken all rice in our stores, securing our farmers’ incomes,” Waiguru said.

Waiguru went on to defend Kirinyaga’s political posture, saying county leaders have deliberately chosen a path that prioritises development and tangible benefits for residents rather than political activism.

“These sort of interventions are what true leaders engage in, the rest we leave to activists. As for pocketing leaders: Kirinyaga leaders have made a determination on which side they are, for the benefit of their people. Come and see just a few of our achievements,” she added.

The governor said Kirinyaga’s cooperation with the National Government has directly translated into improved livelihoods and better service delivery for residents.

“Our collaboration with the National Government has helped us improve the welfare of our people. Huku ni kazi huongea, and voters will vote based on performance,” Waiguru stated.

She also reaffirmed her political stance, making it clear that she has no intention of joining the Opposition, arguing that such a move would not serve the interests of Kirinyaga residents.

“As I said, 𝗪𝗮𝗺𝘂𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗿𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶, because I cannot see how that is going to assist Kirinyaga people,” she declared.

Waiguru’s remarks come just days after she cautioned leaders and residents in the Mt Kenya region to tread carefully amid shifting political alliances. She warned against abandoning the Kenya Kwanza government without a clear political direction or viable alternative.

Speaking on Friday, January 23, 2026, in Kutus during a meeting with newly elected grassroots UDA leaders in Kirinyaga, the governor urged the region to make calculated and well-informed decisions.

“No one should tell us to get out of government without clearly explaining where we are going. Mt Kenya must be strategic and deliberate in its political decisions,” Waiguru said.
