Sold-Out Nyayo Stadium as Kenya Becomes Africa’s Second Host of HSBC World Rugby Sevens Division 2 | BossNana International Radio

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers this weekend and rally behind the Kenya Sevens Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses.

Mvurya said the country takes great pride in hosting the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Division 2, calling it a major milestone that strengthens Kenya’s standing on the global sporting stage. He noted that securing the tournament reflects Kenya’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for top-tier international sports events.

He made the remarks while officially welcoming 12 international teams to the opening leg of the competition at Nyayo Stadium.

Mvurya expressed confidence in the Kenyan squads, saying both teams have trained intensively and are ready to demonstrate the country’s strength and depth in rugby.

“Our national teams, the Kenya Sevens Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses, stand ready to compete with passion and pride, building on Kenya’s remarkable legacy of multiple Africa Sevens titles and consistent podium finishes on the World Rugby Sevens Series, achievements that firmly affirm Kenya as a continental champion and a rising global powerhouse in rugby,” Mvurya said.

Mvurya lauded the tournament’s global stature and revealed the lineup of participating nations. In the women’s category, Kenya will face Brazil, South Africa, China, Argentina, and Spain. The men’s competition will feature Kenya alongside Germany, the United States, Uruguay, Canada, and Belgium.

“Kenya now becomes the second country in Africa to host an event of this magnitude, an unmistakable vote of confidence in our capacity to deliver world-class tournaments, nurture elite talent, and position our nation as a hub for sports tourism and global engagement,” Mvurya said.

The Sports CS assured fans that organizers have sold out all tickets and put in place comprehensive live television coverage to reach audiences worldwide. He also confirmed that authorities have arranged tight security and efficient traffic management to ensure a smooth and safe experience throughout the tournament.

“Let us come out in our numbers, in true Kenyan style, and cheer on our heroes, the Kenya Sevens Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses, as they once again rise to the occasion and redefine history on the global stage,” the CS said.
