Relief Food Row Escalates as Ruto Tells Gachagua: “You Have No Moral Authority” | BossNana International Radio

President William Ruto has taken aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, declaring that he is the least qualified person to speak on issues related to relief food distribution.

Speaking in Mandera on Thursday, Ruto responded to remarks Gachagua made on Tuesday while addressing the media at the DCP party headquarters in Nairobi. During that briefing, Gachagua accused the government of mismanaging public funds and failing to allocate enough resources to drought response efforts.

Gachagua claimed that the Sh4 billion recently allocated for drought mitigation would not adequately address the crisis. He also alleged that leaders from the affected region were looting public resources while residents continued to suffer.

“You have no moral authority to tell anybody anything on matters of relief food,” Ruto said.

“We gave some people the job to do, but they ended up messing up everything and decided to trade in relief food at the expense of vulnerable families,” he added.

Ruto defended his administration’s drought response efforts and credited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for working tirelessly to coordinate the distribution of relief food across all Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) counties.

He said the government has rolled out what he described as the most organized relief operation Mandera County has ever witnessed, adding that the Deputy President has overseen the process to ensure efficiency and accountability.

“For the first time, we have the most comprehensive delivery of relief food in Mandera County, and the Deputy President has played an integral role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly. The same has been confirmed by Governor Mohamed Khalif,” Ruto said.

The president’s remarks came just a day after Deputy President Kindiki also criticized Rigathi Gachagua, arguing that meaningful support for Northern Kenya should have come while he was still in office.

“Talk is cheap. Northern Kenya needed your goodwill and solidarity when you held big office, not now when you are out.”

In a separate post, Kindiki intensified his attack, questioning Gachagua’s credibility on drought-related matters.

“You were sacked as a District Officer (DO) for stealing food meant for drought relief; you have no moral authority to give lectures on drought mitigation.”
