Matiang’i Slams Ruto Over Ksh7B State House Spending | BossNana International Radio

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has accused President William Ruto’s administration of mismanaging public funds, saying lavish spending at State House comes at the expense of critical services like education.

Matiang’i made the remarks on Sunday, February 1, 2026, during a gathering at ACK Gitugi in Murang’a County, where opposition leaders convened under the United Opposition banner. Though the event was initially presented as a church service, it quickly took on a political tone, focusing on governance, corruption, and preparations for the 2027 General Election.

Addressing attendees, Matiang’i questioned the justification for Ksh 7 billion allocated to State House, arguing that such spending is excessive while schools struggle to operate effectively.

“Hii pesa inalipwa huku watu wanalipwa kila siku,” Matiang’i said. “What do you do with 7 billion in State House in one quarter? State House sio shule. Sio hospital. What do you need that kind of money for?”

He accused the government of prioritizing luxury over public welfare, saying the spending reflects systemic corruption within the administration.

“Ni kuiba tu inaendelea hivi, nchi inaporwa,” Matiang’i added. “That is why our children do not have capitation in schools. Hii pesa imeenda huko.”

Matiang’i argued that this funding gap has left schools struggling, with essential resources and basic support failing to reach students.

He urged leaders and citizens to hold the government accountable, framing his comments within a broader call for transparency, responsible governance, and preparation for the upcoming elections.
