The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd has announced a scheduled shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant to enable emergency repair works along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.
The planned outage will run from Friday, September 11, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. to Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.
The company has urged customers in the affected areas to store enough water ahead of time and to use available supplies sparingly throughout the shutdown period.
In Westlands and Lavington, service interruptions will affect Riverside Drive, Chalbi Drive, Convent Drive, Gitanga Road, Kunde Road, Hedred, Mbaazi, Masanduku, Leloghi Gardens, Ole Ndume Road, King’ara Road, Riara Road, and nearby areas.
In Kileleshwa, the interruption will impact Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Mbooni Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, DoD, St George’s School, Tembere Road, and surrounding areas.
In Kibera and surrounding areas, the company says the shutdown will affect Makina, Karanja Road and nearby locations, Fort Jesus, Olympic, Kibera Kianda, parts of Gatwekera, parts of Ayany, Kibera Mwembeni, Makongeni environs, Kwa DC, Lindi, the KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way, and Highrise Estate.
In Kang’ethe and Togo Flats, service interruptions will occur along Kinoo Road/Joseph Kang’ethe Junction to Togo Flats, as well as Kang’ethe Greens Upper Flats.
In Langata, Nairobi West, and Madaraka, affected areas include Langata Barracks, Sunvalley 1 and 2, Royal Park, the Dog Unit, KMA, St. Mary’s and nearby areas, Madaraka, Hima Gardens and Siwaka, Funguo Estate, Akila 2 and surrounding areas, Rangers Court, Leeban B, and the Nairobi West Shopping Centre.
In Karen and surrounding areas, the affected locations include Bogani East Road, Muiri Lane, Forest Edge, Mukinduri Road, Muricho Road, Mukoma Road, Kisembe East, Magadi Road, Ndorobo Road, Kikeni Road, Ndovu Road, Kifaru Road, Tandara Road, Mutamaiyo, Mundenderu Road, Kikeni Close, Korongo Road, Swara Lodge environs, Quere Lane, and Langata South Road.
Other affected areas include Mukoyeti West and East, Mukoyeti Road, Langata South Road between Bogani East Road and Ushirika, May East, Dalat, Royale, Kuwinda Road, Kufuga Road, Koitobos, Twiga Hill, Ushirika, Masai West, Hardy, Milima, Simba Hill, Giraffe Centre, Tumbili, Macushla, Bogani Road, Nzohe, Kasuku, Kwarara, Silanga Road, Kumbe Road, Comboni, and Mbagathi Ridge.
In the Central Business District, South B, South C, and the Airport corridor, the interruption will cover the CBD, areas along Mombasa Road, South B and South C estates, including Mater Hospital, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the Standard Gauge Railway, Athi River Export Processing Zone, Coca-Cola, Mukuru, Imara Daima, and estates and industries along North Airport Road. It will also affect Embakasi Village, Tassia Estate, and MAVWASCO.
In Ngara, Gigiri, and diplomatic areas, the affected locations include Ngara, Forest Road, Desai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, Muranga Road, Park Road, Gigiri, Whispers Avenue, Village Market, UNEP, and the US Embassy.
The outage will also affect the University of Nairobi and Valley Road areas, including the University of Nairobi main campus, as well as customers along the Mamlaka Line and Valley Road.
In Kilimani and Hurlingham, service interruptions will cover Argwings Kodhek Road from Chaka Road to Hurlingham, Hurlingham Shopping Centre, and nearby areas. The shutdown will also affect Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road, Coptic Hospital, and surrounding areas.
In Upper Hill, the affected areas include Matumbato, Kiambere, and Masaba areas, Mawenzi Road, parts of Hospital Road, Kenya Road, Elgon Road, Kenyatta National Hospital, and the KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way.
In Dagoretti, Kawangware, and Waithaka, the interruption will impact Lower Gitanga Road, parts of Kawangware, Sunset Estate, Sohill City Estates, Kagira, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Upper Waithaka, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market, and Mariguini.
In Uthiru, Mutuini, and Gatina, affected areas will include the Uthiru Muthua area, Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini, and nearby areas, as well as Gatina and its surroundings.
The Jamhuri, Kabarnet, and Kenyatta Market vicinity will also experience interruptions, including Bishop Magua, Kabarnet Road, parts of Joseph Kang’ethe Road, Muchai Drive from Ngong Road to Mbaruk Road, Jamhuri Estate, Upper Hill areas, Kenyatta National Hospital, KEMRI Offices, Highview 1 and 2, Kenyatta Market, and surrounding areas.
In Eastlands, the shutdown will affect Eastleigh, Maringo, Buruburu Phases 3 and 4, Gikomba, Pumwani, Majengo, Shauri Moyo, Jericho, Jerusalem, and Kimathi areas.
In Mathare, Huruma, and along the Outer Ring corridor, the affected areas include Mathare North, GSU, Rafiki, Utalii College, KPLC Training School, Traffic Headquarters, Mathari Hospital, Mlango Kubwa, Juja Road, Huruma, Ngei I and II, Kosovo, Racecourse, Ushirika, parts of Ngumba Estate, Old Muthaiga Road, parts of Thome, Survey, Safari Park Hotel, Kenya Breweries, and parts of Baba Dogo light industries.
The company will also shut down supplies across the entire industrial area, including Masai Road and adjacent areas.
Nairobi Water has asked all customers in the affected zones to remain understanding and cooperate as it carries out the emergency repairs.
