Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga has approached the courts to contest Governor Gladys Wanga’s decision to lock him out of his office.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, February 5, Magwanga said he had filed a lawsuit seeking a court order to compel Wanga to reopen the office, which he claims she closed last year.
He said the closure has left him without a workspace, effectively preventing him from performing his duties and serving the residents of Homa Bay County.
“I went to court to petition the court to order the governor to unlock my office that she locked last year. She has rendered me jobless. I have nowhere to sit to offer my services to the people of Homa Bay,” Magwanga said.
Magwanga argued that keeping his office closed disrupts service delivery and denies county residents the support and representation they deserve.
He insisted he cannot discharge his responsibilities from home or under a tree, stressing that his role requires a formal county office.
The deputy governor also claimed that since his office was locked, Governor Wanga has not provided any official communication or alternative arrangements.
He urged the governor to reconsider and reopen his office even before the court delivers a ruling.
“There has never been any communication from her instructing me on what to do. This is a disservice to the people of Homa Bay,” Magwanga said.
“I want to appeal to her to make the necessary arrangements to open my office before the court pronounces itself,” he added.
Looking ahead, Magwanga hinted at a political showdown, revealing his intention to contest the Homa Bay governorship in the 2027 general election.
“As Joseph Oyugi Magwanga, who vied for the governor’s position in 2017 and is now her deputy, I will be on the ballot in 2027 as governor for Homa Bay County. Let her prepare to face off with me,” he stated.
