‘Hands Off the DP Seat’: Kindiki Allies Fire Back at ODM | BossNana International Radio

A group of political leaders from Mt. Kenya East has thrown its weight behind the re-election of the Kenya Kwanza government, saying the administration has honored key pledges it made before the 2022 General Election.

The leaders praised William Ruto for what they described as steady progress in development across the region and the country. They pointed to ongoing infrastructure upgrades, the resumption of stalled road projects, expanded electricity connections, water supply initiatives, affordable housing programs, and improving economic indicators as proof of the government’s performance.

They also rejected claims that any potential coalition negotiations would involve discussions about the deputy president’s position. According to them, the seat is occupied and not subject to political bargaining.

Addressing mourners at a burial ceremony in Chuka/Igambang’ombe, Muthomi Njuki said President Ruto, working alongside Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, has solidified the administration’s chances of securing another term.

“The Deputy President’s seat should be completely off the negotiation table because there is no valid reason for it to be targeted. The current holder is capable and should continue serving,” said Mr. Njuki.

Central Imenti MP Kirima Ngushine, Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, and Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni attend a community-based organizations (CBOs) empowerment event.

He went on to claim that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had expressed interest in the deputy president’s seat. He added that if the matter was pushed, the ruling coalition could even “donate” Kithure Kindiki to ODM while still retaining him as deputy president.

Speaking during a community-based organizations (CBOs) empowerment event in Katheri East, Imenti Central, leaders including Mwangi Kiunjuri, John Paul Mwirigi, Kirima Ngushine, John Mutunga, and Dorothy Muthoni backed the same position.

They cautioned that any move to remove Kindiki from office would compel them to rethink their support for the government.

The leaders also warned against early political schemes that could unsettle the country and inflame tensions ahead of the next election cycle.

Kiunjuri cautioned that divisions within the Mt. Kenya region would erode its political strength and bargaining power.

“Once Ameru, Embu, and Kikuyu accept to be divided along tribal lines, we will be finished one by one,” said Mr. Kiunjuri.

The leaders also turned their criticism toward opposition figures, among them former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing them of misleading residents and creating a rift between the Mt. Kenya region and the government.

John Mutunga said the administration’s bottom-up economic model is already producing real results at the grassroots level through empowerment programs, and he called on residents to rally fully behind it.

Dorothy Muthoni appealed to Mt. Kenya leaders to close ranks and speak in one voice, steering clear of divisive politics. She described Kithure Kindiki as a unifying leader who remains focused on driving development.

Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi said they stand ready to campaign for the reelection of the Kenya Kwanza government in the region, pointing to ongoing projects as evidence of performance.

Ngushine compared the deputy president’s position to a married woman whose dowry has already been paid, arguing that no other man can lay claim to her.
