The High Court has extended interim injunction orders in a high-stakes corruption case where the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) seeks to recover KSh813 million allegedly misappropriated by Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi and other defendants.

On Wednesday, Justice Hedwig Okwany of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division heard the case and issued directions regarding an application the EACC filed on November 4, 2024.

EACC Moves to Protect Disputed Assets

The anti-graft agency requested the court to extend interim orders that prevent the defendants from disposing of the disputed assets while the case proceeds. Justice Okwany granted the request and extended the injunctions until March 17, 2026.

The court also directed all parties to exchange written submissions on the injunction application, giving each side 14 days to file and serve their documents.

Defendant Challenges Suit’s Validity

Additionally, the court allowed the parties to file pleadings in response to an application by the first defendant seeking to strike out the entire suit.

The case will appear for mention on March 17, 2026, before Justice Musyoki, who will provide further directions. The court ordered that the extracted orders be served on all parties involved.

The EACC has filed the suit against Governor Wamatangi and co-defendants, alleging that the KSh813 million represents proceeds of corruption that should be forfeited to the state.
