Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has unveiled a major reduction in day secondary school fees, cutting costs from Ksh 1,000 to just Ksh 500 per term for all learners from Grade 10 to Form Four under the newly launched Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme 2026.
The initiative will benefit over 12,000 students across 65 day secondary schools in the constituency, making education more affordable and accessible for thousands of families.
“The new fee structure will take effect from Term One of 2026 and will apply to all students enrolled in public day secondary schools in Kiharu,” Nyoro said.
School Feeding Programme to Boost Attendance and Performance
As part of the initiative, the programme introduces a comprehensive school feeding plan, ensuring all learners receive lunch on every school day, including Saturdays.
The meals will include githeri three days a week, rice three days, uji for tea breaks, and chapati on the last Friday of every month, aiming to improve attendance, concentration, and academic performance.
Additional Support for Students and Schools
To strengthen academic excellence, the Kiharu NG-CDF has allocated Ksh 10 million for revision materials this financial year, adding to the Ksh 20 million previously invested.
The constituency has also spent over Ksh 50 million on school infrastructure, focusing heavily on building and upgrading laboratories.
Students entering Grade 10 in 20 identified low-enrolment and newly established schools will receive free uniforms, while all 65 day secondary schools will get an extra Ksh 50,000 each to support music, sports, and other co-curricular activities.
Teacher and Administrator Incentives
The programme includes motivational incentives for teachers and school administrators. The best-performing teacher in each sub-county will enjoy a fully paid trip to Mombasa, while top-performing principals will be rewarded with international trips to Dubai or Malaysia.
Schools running remedial programmes will cap fees at Ksh 1,000 per term, and administrators are prohibited from imposing any additional registration or extra charges in all institutions.
Furthermore, the initiative covers insurance premiums and servicing for school buses owned by day secondary schools, easing financial pressure on both parents and schools.

Open to All Learners
The programme is inclusive, covering all learners, including those from outside Kiharu, provided they enroll in day secondary schools within the constituency.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to providing quality education, nurturing talent, and reducing financial barriers for families in Kiharu,” Nyoro said.
With this programme, Kiharu aims to transform day secondary education, supporting students academically, socially, and nutritionally while fostering a holistic learning environment.
