Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has declined a planned visit by a youth group to his private residence in Ichaweri, Gatundu, Kiambu County, citing a lack of formal communication.
In a statement released Sunday, Kanze Dena, Communications Secretary in the Office of the 4th President, said the group did not follow the required protocol before organizing the visit.
“We wish to clarify that President (Rtd) Kenyatta is currently not in a position to host the said group,” the statement noted.
Office of the 4th President Cites Protocol Concerns
According to the statement, the proposed meeting did not receive prior formal notification, making it impossible to facilitate appropriate arrangements at the former Head of State’s Ichaweri home.
The Office of the 4th President advised the youth group to reach out officially in advance if they wish to organize a future engagement. Proper coordination, the office said, would allow adequate planning and security arrangements.
Despite declining the visit, Kenyatta reiterated his willingness to engage with young people and other groups, provided the interaction takes place respectfully.
“He firmly believes that dialogue between generations is essential for shaping the future of our nation, and he welcomes opportunities for constructive engagement,” the statement added.
Kenyatta also affirmed that he remains open to speaking with anyone “in a dignified manner that fosters unity and mutual respect.”
Uhuru Distances Himself From Political Speculation
The development comes just weeks after Kenyatta dismissed online claims suggesting he was set to meet former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his opposition outfit to discuss the political direction of the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
At the time, the former president rejected the reports as misleading and politically motivated. He maintained that he had not entered into any negotiations related to the 2027 polls and warned against attempts to drag his name into emerging political realignments.
Kenyatta reminded the public that any official communication from his office would only be issued through verified and established channels.
