The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and Azam Media Group have jointly warned against the rising cases of illegal live streaming of FKF Premier League matches on social media platforms.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the organisations expressed concern that more matches are being broadcast unlawfully, either live from stadiums or via recordings captured from television screens and shared online.
FKF and Azam clarified that the official broadcast and media rights for the FKF Premier League are jointly held by Azam Group Limited and the federation, with FKF retaining Free-To-Air (FTA) rights. They warned that any unauthorised recording, live streaming, or redistribution of match content constitutes piracy and is illegal.
“This practice directly harms the league and its clubs,” the statement read in part. “It reduces broadcast and commercial revenues, weakens sponsorship value, and ultimately denies clubs the full commercial benefit of the competition.”
The organisations cautioned that continued piracy threatens the long-term growth and development of Kenyan football, as reduced revenues impact club operations, player welfare, and grassroots investment.
“In the long run, this is detrimental to the growth and development of Kenyan football,” the statement added.
FKF and Azam Media Group called on clubs, fans, and all stakeholders to protect the league’s value by respecting broadcast rights and discouraging illegal streaming.
“FKF and Azam Media Group therefore call upon all clubs, fans and stakeholders to work together in protecting the value of the league by respecting broadcast rights and discouraging illegal streaming in all its forms.”
The warning also came with a firm notice that legal and regulatory action will be taken against anyone found distributing FKF League content unlawfully.
“Appropriate legal and regulatory measures will be applied against individuals or entities found to be involved in piracy or illegal distribution of Sportpesa League content. This directive takes immediate effect,” the statement concluded.
The alert arrives amid increased digital content sharing across social media, which broadcasters say has made enforcing intellectual property rights more challenging but essential for sustaining professional football in Kenya.
