DJ Brownskin Walks Free Over Wife’s Death After Prosecution Case Collapses | BossNana International Radio

Popular Kenyan entertainer DJ Brownskin, born Michael Njiiri, has walked free after a court dismissed all charges connected to his wife Sharon Njeri’s death in July 2022.

Milimani Magistrate’s Court delivered the acquittal on Thursday, with Magistrate Caroline Nyanguthi ruling that prosecutors failed to build a strong enough case against the DJ.

“The court cannot safely convict on any of the counts,” Magistrate Nyanguthi declared, acquitting Brownskin under Section 210 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Three Charges Dismissed Due to Insufficient Evidence

The entertainer faced three serious allegations: aiding suicide, failing to prevent a felony, and destroying evidence. The court found that none of these charges met the legal threshold needed to proceed to a full defense.

Magistrate Nyanguthi stressed that the case required “sobriety, compassion and respect for human dignity,” acknowledging the profound grief experienced by both families. She clarified that the court’s role centered on evaluating evidence rather than making moral judgments.

Key Witness Testimonies Cleared DJ of Wrongdoing

While the court confirmed that Sharon Njeri died by suicide, prosecutors could not demonstrate that DJ Brownskin encouraged, facilitated, or deliberately contributed to her death.

Only two witnesses – a household employee and the couple’s daughter – were present during the tragic incident. Their accounts revealed that both the DJ and his wife had been drinking and argued before she consumed poison.

According to witness testimony, DJ Brownskin immediately attempted to help his wife by giving her milk, sought assistance from neighbors, and rushed her to the hospital.

“There was no evidence that the accused supplied any instrument, issued instructions, encouraged the deceased, used threats or influenced her to commit the act,” the magistrate ruled.

No Prior Knowledge of Suicide Intent Found

Regarding the charge of neglecting to prevent a felony, the court determined that prosecutors failed to prove DJ Brownskin knew about his wife’s intentions beforehand.

Family members testified that Sharon Njeri had purchased the substance earlier for household purposes and stored it openly in their home.

The court dismissed the evidence destruction charge after finding that none of the seven prosecution witnesses connected DJ Brownskin to the alleged removal of his mobile phone.

Prosecutors notably failed to call the investigating officer to testify – a gap that led the court to conclude the missing evidence likely wouldn’t have supported the state’s case.

Viral Video Never Presented as Court Evidence

Magistrate Nyanguthi addressed a controversial video that circulated online months after Sharon Njeri’s death. While the footage influenced public perception and led to DJ Brownskin’s arrest, prosecutors never submitted it as court evidence.

The defense suggested the video may have leaked during a family dispute over child custody.

Following established legal precedent, the court ruled that any evidentiary uncertainties must favor the accused.

Timeline of the Case

DJ Brownskin first appeared in court in June 2023 following investigations into his wife’s death. Prosecutors had alleged he watched as Sharon Njeri ingested poison and later deleted suicide-related content from his phone, knowing it would be needed in legal proceedings.

However, Magistrate Nyanguthi concluded that the prosecution failed to provide adequate evidence to prove the essential elements of any of the charges brought against the entertainer.

The acquittal marks the end of a lengthy legal battle that has kept the popular DJ in the public spotlight for nearly two years.
