Maraga Sets Conditions for Teaming Up With Fred Matiang’i and Kalonzo | BossNana International Radio

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has outlined clear conditions for collaborating with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as he pursues the presidency in 2027.

Speaking on the Obinna Show on Monday, November 25, 2025, Maraga said his stance is rooted in the ideals of young Kenyans who protested against the Finance Bill 2024, championed by the Gen Z movement.

Maraga explained that any partnership involving Matiang’i has to meet what he is calling “irreducible minimums.” First, he says that Matiang’i must adopt his vision for this country: a rule of law and an intensified fight against corruption.

“If he comes and embraces my vision, we will work together,” Maraga said, adding that anyone who joins him in the 2027 race must accept him as the flagbearer, with others rallying behind his leadership.

About the possibility of working with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Maraga spoke highly of his former colleague, recalling that they studied law together at the University of Nairobi. He described Kalonzo as a good man and expressed openness to partnership, provided Kalonzo also aligns with his vision and agrees to uphold it.

This condition applies not only to Matiang’i or Kalonzo but to anyone interested in vying for the presidency alongside him, the CJ Emeritus stated.

Maraga at the same time ruled out any collaboration with President William Ruto, citing a fundamental misalignment of values. He dismissed notions of forming a coalition, comparing their principles to “day and night.” He criticized the president for actions that, in his view, violate human rights, specifically referencing incidents where people were allegedly ordered to be shot in the leg.
