The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has condemned the violence that broke out in Narok town on Monday, November 24, 2025, alleging that senior police commanders sanctioned and coordinated attacks targeting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his supporters.
Gachagua had gone to Narok to campaign for DCP’s candidate for Ward Representative, Douglas Masikonde, in the by-election set for November 27. The team, however, received a hostile reception, which the party now alleges was orchestrated to disrupt its activities and intimidate supporters.
The party has accused the National Police Service of deploying uniformed officers, plain-clothes operatives and alleged militia groups to unleash violence on its leader in a strongly worded letter addressed to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
“Mr Douglas Kanja, IG of the National Police Service, Narok Town, was a violent scene yesterday, 24th November 2025. This is not the first time violence has been meted out on my supporters and me by state-sponsored militia and police. Kenyans are closely watching you,” Gachagua posted on X.
According to the party, chaos erupted during a planned political engagement for Masikonde where the officers allegedly fired live ammunition, lobbed tear gas, and forcefully dispersed crowds. DCP claims this disruption was not a spontaneous act but rather a calculated attempt to sabotage the by-election campaigns.
The party further alleges that police mounted illegal roadblocks by sealing off major entry and exit routes into Narok, trapping civilians and heightening fear in the town. Women, children and traders were reportedly assaulted as they tried to flee the violence.
DCP insists these actions form part of a broader pattern of intimidation meant to weaken its support base ahead of Thursday’s by-election.
In its letter, the party also links the Narok incident to previous clashes reported in Murang’a County, claiming that the same officers accused of orchestrating earlier attacks were once again seen directing operations and issuing instructions to senior security personnel in Narok. The party argues that this points to “a dangerous breakdown of command” within the police service.
The statement accuses police leadership of ignoring earlier warnings about threats against DCP officials and failing to take corrective action. It warns that any further violence during the by-election will be blamed squarely on the police command.
DCP now wants an urgent and independent investigation into the Narok violence, the immediate withdrawal of the officers involved and disciplinary action to restore trust within affected communities. The party adds that if the police leadership cannot guarantee order and impartiality, then those in command should take responsibility and resign.
The party concludes by urging state authorities to act quickly to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of citizens, political supporters and residents as the country approaches the by-election.
