Political activist Kasmuel McOure has come out strongly in defense of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, warning that attacks on his leadership as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader undermine the judgment of the late party founder, Raila Odinga.
Following Raila Odinga’s death while serving as ODM party leader, the party’s National Executive Committee appointed his elder brother, Oburu Odinga, to lead the party during its 20th anniversary celebrations. However, a section of ODM members has questioned the legality of Oburu Odinga’s leadership, claiming it contradicts the party constitution.
In response, McOure took to X on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, to defend the Siaya Senator.
“An attack on Dr Oburu Oginga’s leadership of the ODM is an attack on Baba’s judgement and on the party structures he carefully built over the years. Every decision Baba made regarding the future of the ODM led to Dr Oburu’s confirmation as party leader,” he wrote.
He added that Oburu Odinga’s leadership remains legitimate and warned those seeking to undermine it.
“He remains our leader, and we shall defend him as fiercely as we defended His Excellency Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, C.G.H. A new faction of cunning legislators and influential actors is spending heavily to manufacture an ODM narrative, trying to change and erase his leadership. We shall recognise no other centre of authority in this party,” McOure said.
The activist cautioned ODM members that attempts to destabilize the party’s leadership will not succeed.
“No amount of money, bullying, or the cynical invocation of ‘reform’ will move us. Let it not be forgotten that it is his wisdom that has preserved some of you within the ODM fold. He has steadied the Chungwa ship and redirected it toward inclusivity and the consolidation of gains at a time when others were issuing ultimatums and plotting their own paths. His judgement kept the house intact,” he continued.
McOure also urged party members to give Oburu Odinga the space to focus on his work at Chungwa House.
“Regardless of your position or your proximity to power, on matters Chungwa, focus on your work and allow our party leader to execute his mandate. That is the discipline that built this movement, and it is the discipline that will secure its future,” he asserted.
