Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that the Odinga family has officially opened its doors to friends and political allies of the late Raila Amolo Odinga who wish to visit and convey their condolences in Bondo, Siaya County.
Speaking during the United Opposition media briefing at the SKM Command Centre in Nairobi on Monday, November 3, 2025, Kalonzo said the family and Raila’s close associates had agreed to respect the late leader’s wish for a swift burial but would now make a formal condolence visit.
“On Thursday, familia ya ndugu yetu marehemu Raila Odinga wametukubalika tukawaambieni pole,” Kalonzo said. “Kwa sababu ndugu yetu alisema azikwe haraka iwezekanavyo hatukupata nafasi, marafiki wa Raila wengi wameamua tutaandamana tukaambie familia bado tunasimama na wao.”
He clarified that the proposed visit is a symbol of solidarity and continued support to the Odinga family, while celebrating Raila’s remarkable political and social legacy.
Kalonzo’s remarks came amid public speculation over why several opposition leaders did not attend Raila’s burial. He clarified that the family had requested a private and expedited send-off, which all leaders chose to respect.
Last week, United Opposition Youth Leader Ken Babu announced that a broader delegation, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, would also travel to Bondo, emphasizing that the Odinga family had not barred anyone from paying their respects.
“Raila Jr. made it clear there is no issue,” Babu said. “They have not stopped anyone from mourning.”
