Eldoret Assault Case: Forgiving Worker Surprises Public as COTU Demands Deportation of Chinese Boss | BossNana International Radio

The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) has demanded the immediate deportation of a Chinese national filmed assaulting a Kenyan worker at a factory in Eldoret, sparking widespread public outrage.

The viral, undated video shows the Kenyan employee trying to defend himself as the foreign supervisor kicks and slaps him repeatedly. According to COTU, the man in the video manages TCM Mabati Factory in Eldoret, where the assaulted worker serves under his supervision.

In a strongly worded statement addressed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the union condemned the incident as a blatant violation of the worker’s dignity and rights. COTU insisted it would not tolerate cases where foreigners mistreat Kenyan workers.

The union demanded the deportation of the Chinese national without delay, warning that “anything less would be a betrayal of the trust Kenyan workers have placed in your Ministry.”

COTU also urged CS Murkomen, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, to intensify oversight of businesses run by foreign nationals. The union said stricter monitoring and enforcement measures are necessary to prevent similar incidents and protect Kenyan workers from abuse.

In a surprising turn, the assaulted worker later announced that he had forgiven his supervisor and wished to continue working at the factory.

“I have forgiven him, and I still want to work here… If there is a problem next time we will talk in the office and I will accept my mistake, but I have forgiven him,” he said in a follow-up video.

This latest incident mirrors another case COTU recently highlighted, where a Chinese investor at the Export Processing Zone allegedly forced Kenyan workers to sing Chinese songs throughout the workday and verbally abused the General Secretary of the Tailors and Textile Workers Union.

The union insists such patterns of mistreatment must end, urging government authorities to act decisively to safeguard Kenyan workers’ rights.
