President William Ruto has revealed that ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga personally presented him with a detailed list of ministries the party hoped to secure under the broad-based government agreement reached in 2024.
Speaking at the ODM Founders’ Dinner in Mombasa on Saturday, President Ruto recounted the extensive consultations he held with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, noting that Oburu consistently served as the central figure in all major discussions.
Ruto described Oburu as Raila’s “brother, friend, and confidant”, adding that any substantive talks regarding the broad-based government had to involve him directly.
“It was Oburu Odinga who came and told me, ‘This is the list of the ministries we are thinking about,’ and it was a fairly long list,” the President said.
The President praised Oburu for assuming the leadership of ODM at a pivotal moment in national politics, acknowledging the trust the party had placed in him.
“This great party has given you the honour to steer its affairs. We can only wish you well. We can only wish you Godspeed,” Ruto stated.
He also urged the ODM leader to safeguard Raila Odinga’s political legacy, portraying the former premier as a symbol of resilience and national vision.
“My hope and wish is that you will not let him down, that you will stand for what he stood for, match his vision, and work for this party the same way your brother and leader did,” the President added.
