The Gang Suppression Force (GSF) which includes Kenyan troops deployed to Haiti has dismissed reports alleging that two Kenyan officers were killed during a recent security operation in the Caribbean nation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the multinational mission assured the public that all its personnel were safe, confirming that no Kenyan officer had died in the latest engagements.
The GSF explained that its troops conducted a joint operation with the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAD’H) in the Artibonite Department, specifically along the Petite-Rivière–Liancourt–Pont Sondé route. The mission’s main objective was to dismantle gang networks and reopen critical transport corridors that had been blocked by heavily armed criminal groups.
During the operation, members of the Gran-Griff gang launched a fierce resistance against the security forces, prompting the officers to retaliate and eventually overpower the attackers. The intense exchange of fire sparked widespread speculation that two Kenyan officers had been killed, leading to the false reports the GSF has now dismissed.
During the offensive, gang members tried to strengthen their positions by digging trenches and taking control of high-rise buildings, from which they hurled Molotov cocktails at the advancing security forces.
However, specialized units from the GSF, recently rebranded from the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), working alongside the Haitian National Police (PNH), swiftly neutralized the threats. Their coordinated response ensured the safe passage of residents and the successful delivery of armored vehicles to nearby police stations, restoring calm in the affected areas.
