Kimani Ichung’wah Clarifies Ruto’s Cyber Crime Law Amid Public Backlash | BossNana International Radio

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has come out to defend the Cyber and Computer Crime Act, which President William Ruto signed into law on October 15, 2025.

The Kikuyu Member of Parliament maintains that the Act carries no harmful intentions toward Kenyans but instead seeks to protect families from pornographic materials that adults access and share with children.

“Critics have been spreading misinformation that the Act undermines freedom of expression. That is false. The amendment was modeled to protect Kenyan families – families that have suffered due to unregulated online content,” said Ichung’wah.

“This is the primary aim of the act,” Ichung’wah stated on Sunday.

Ichung’wah encouraged Kenyans to ignore critics who claim the Act will strip citizens of their right to engage on social media.

This Act will protect families from cyber and computer crime, protect churches from extremist religious leaders from recruiting members for bad intentions like the one we all witnessed in Shakahola,” Ichung’wah explained.

Ichung’wah at the same time  pledged to shut down websites that exploit digital platforms to promote pornography, extremism, and other harmful content on social media.

“Let’s say the truth in regards to this bill, it’s causing no harm to people rather than protecting the families against cyber crimes,” the MP said.

He was addressing a congregation in Malava Constituency where the Kenya Kwanza team is campaigning for UDA parliamentary candidate David Ndakwa ahead of the November Malava by-election.

Ichung’wah promised Malava residents that if voters elect Ndakwa, he will receive the Budget chairman post, and if they elect him for a second term, he will then assume the position of majority leader.
