Heavy Rains to Continue Across Kenya, Weatherman Issues New Warning | BossNana International Radio

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that the ongoing heavy rains pounding various parts of the country will persist through the coming days, with more regions expected to be affected.

In an update issued on Sunday, the weatherman said the rains will continue in Nairobi, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Coastal regions, cautioning that the downpour could be accompanied by strong winds capable of damaging trees, power lines, and weak structures.

According to the department, some of these areas will experience heavy rainfall ranging between 20 and 50 millimetres, with isolated spots receiving above 50 millimetres within 24 hours. Kenyans have been urged to remain vigilant, as flooding may occur even in areas where it has not directly rained due to runoff from higher regions.

Residents have been advised to avoid crossing moving water, stay indoors during thunderstorms, and monitor official updates from the weatherman.

“Refer to forecast maps for rainfall distribution and intensity,” Kenya Met advised.

The advisory comes after the department issued a Yellow Warning earlier this week, predicting that the heavy rainfall would intensify and spread to more regions, including parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, and Northwestern Kenya.

The agency warned that the continued downpour could lead to localized flooding, reduced visibility on roads, and challenging driving conditions. It also urged residents in flood-prone areas to move to safer ground and avoid sheltering under trees or near power lines during thunderstorms.

Additionally, the department cautioned fishermen and small boat operators along the coast and Lake Victoria Basin to exercise extreme caution, as gusty winds could endanger their safety.

The Kenya Meteorological Department reaffirmed its commitment to providing continuous updates, encouraging Kenyans to remain alert and take the necessary precautions to stay safe during this extended period of rainfall.
