Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has cautioned teachers and education stakeholders against exam malpractice as Kenya prepares for the 2025 national examination period that will kick off this month.
In a speech while presiding over World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Kasarani on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Ogamba urged teachers to ensure integrity and credibility of exams, promising them that they have the backing of the government.
“As always, we look forward to your support in delivering a seamless and credible examination and assessment process. Let us work together to ensure that the outcome reflects the honest work of our students,” he appealed.
The CS’s reminder came days after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued a public notice about fake exam papers being posted on social media in advance of the 2025 national exams.
In its September 5, 2025 release, KNEC cautioned parents, teachers, and candidates against being deceived by counterfeit materials, adding that they did not originate from the council.
Ogamba added that exam integrity matters much more this year because it is the first year the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) has been conducted.
The KJSEA and the Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPVLEA) will take nine days, between October 27 and November 6, 2025. They will determine the progress of learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and guide them to higher levels.
The CS also confirmed that 1,298,089 students will sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), while 1,130,669 students will sit for the inaugural KJSEA. 996,078 more students will sit for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Ogamba reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the examination process, noting that tough penalties await anyone, individual or institution, found guilty of exam malpractice.
He assured that the system for monitoring and enforcement had been strengthened to ensure that the examination period in 2025 is made transparent, credible, and really reflective of students’ sincere work.
