University of Nairobi Student Killed in Bathroom Row, Roommate Arrested | BossNana International Radio

A tragic altercation over the use of a toilet has left a University of Nairobi student dead and his roommate in police custody in Kikuyu.

The incident, which took place late on Monday night, saw Brian Wambui, a third-year student at the vasity’s Kikuyu Campus, lose his life due to injuries sustained after being stabbed by his roommate, Justus Otieno.

The roommates had a disagreement over toilet chores – in this instance, who was meant to flush and wipe down their hostel bathroom. The fight began as minor but quickly escalated into a full-blown quarrel.

Omondi Ogola, a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer based in Kikuyu, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the fatal outcome of such a trivial disagreement.

“Preliminarily, we have been informed that the cause of the quarrel was a disagreement over the ablution block. The disagreement escalated and friends of the deceased joined in. That is when the suspect dashed to the house to get a weapon to defend himself,” Ogola explained.

Police moved Wambui’s body to PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem will be conducted. Meanwhile, Otieno is being held at Kikuyu Police Station, awaiting investigations and arraignment in court.

Authorities have urged students to seek peaceful, alternative dispute resolution methods instead of allowing minor disagreements to spiral into violence.
