Protect Your Money: Kenyans Advised to Confirm SACCO Licenses | BossNana International Radio

Online Saccos in Kenya You Can Join Right NowThe Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has warned Kenyans to be careful while saving their deposits with cooperative societies since there are some SACCOs that lack valid licenses.

The regulator, in a notice on Monday, August 25, was concerned about reports that some SACCOs without licenses were conducting business against the law. SASRA requested the public to check the licensing status of any cooperative society before saving or investing.

“Operating a SACCO without a valid license is unlawful. Members of the public are encouraged to verify the licensing status of any SACCO Society from the published list before undertaking any financial transactions,” SASRA warned.

The regulator advised Kenyans to confirm a SACCO’s licensing status on the SASRA website, where it has published an updated list of all authorized credit cooperatives.

The Authority also reminded deposit-taking SACCOs to commence the process of applying for the renewal of their 2026 licenses, as provided for in the SACCO Societies Act, which compels societies to reapply at least 90 days to expiry.

“The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority reminds all deposit-taking SACCOs that the renewal window for their 2026 deposit-taking licenses is open from now until 30th September 2025,” the regulator announced.

It added that the applications must comply with the official guidance note and checklist on its website, sasra.go.ke.

SASRA indicated it will publish the final list of licensed deposit-taking SACCOs for 2026 on or before January 3, 2026.
