Natembeya Shuts Down Speculation Over Meeting with Murkomen | BossNana International Radio

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has addressed the growing speculation about his political allegiance following a recent visit from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Speaking on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, following an appearance at the Senate, Natembeya clarified that Murkomen’s visit to the office was consistent with normal government protocol.

He made it clear that when a top government official from the national government, either the President or a Cabinet Secretary, visits a county, the commissioner of the county receives them first before formally taking them to the governor for signing the visitors’ book.

“I understand protocol; written protocol, that is. It is that whenever a senior government official from the national government, be it the president or a Cabinet Secretary, ambaye anataka kumwona governor, lazima apitie kwa County Commissioner appreciate a briefing.”

“Nimekuwa county commissioner, so mimi mwenyewe najua. The county commissioner, anamleta kwa the governor to come and sign a visitors’ book, and that is what happened yesterday during Murkomen’s visit to Trans-Nzoia; Murkomen came to sign my visitors’ book,” Natembeya stated.

He dismissed speculation that his meeting with Murkomen hinted at a political realignment. He said there was no reason to avoid the visit, which followed official protocol.

Natembeya explained that Murkomen simply signed the visitors’ book, proceeded with his scheduled engagements, and later, the governor flew to Nairobi for his own official duties.

“Lazima angeletwa pale na nani; sasa ati nitoroke kwa sababu Murkomen anakuja Trans-Nzoia; nitoroke kwa nini? Alikuja nikamsalimia, yeye akaenda kwa shughuli yake, mimi nikapanda Ndege nikakuja Nairobi,” he said, emphasizing that the visit was routine and nothing more.

Governor Natembeya confirmed that his political position had not changed. He explained that he was still firmly in the opposition and still believed the nation was on the wrong path.

He warned the public against interpreting Murkomen’s visit as a sign of altered allegiances or devotion to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Msimamo wetu ni ule ule ya kwamba sisi tuko upinzani, na tunaamini kwamba nchi hailekei pazuri, haiwezi badilika ati kwa sababu Murkomen alikuja kunitembelea,” he said.
