Caleb Amisi: Why I’m the Only MP Who’s Never Shaken Ruto’s Hand | BossNana International Radio

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi says he has never met President William Ruto, positioning himself as an example of generational change in Kenyan politics.

Speaking in a radio political talk show, Amisi said he also never met Ruto when he served as Deputy President or during the political truce that followed the handshake between Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He took pride as the only MP to never meet Ruto, saying young leaders must break away from what he called “outdated political habits” and set a new standard in Kenyan politics.

“I stand as the only Member of Parliament who has never met President William Ruto,” Amisi said.

“Even when everyone was scrambling to meet him during his time as Deputy President, even during the handshake, I didn’t see the need.”

Amisi’s comments come as younger leaders often find themselves caught between old party loyalties amid calls for fresh, independent thinking. For the Saboti MP, this shift isn’t just political – it’s deeply personal and intentional. He noted that he doesn’t believe political maturity requires compromising on core principles or blurring ideological lines.

“When I decided that this was my way of doing politics and I don’t agree with you, then there’s no meeting point,” he added.

“We are trying to be different,” he said. “If we behave like the older generation, then what will young people learn from us?”
