An emotional scene unfolded in Bomet County when President William Ruto was overcome with emotion during a public engagement. A young girl shared her family’s economic hardships directly with the Head of State, prompting a tearful exchange.
The moment took place during President Ruto’s four-day development tour of Bomet and Kericho counties, where he is inspecting and launching several state projects while holding public rallies across the South Rift region.
An Emotional Exchange on the Campaign Vehicle
During a rally stop in Bomet, onlookers assisted the young girl in climbing onto the vehicle where President Ruto was addressing the crowd. She initially recited a poem in Kalenjin dedicated to the president and his leadership before opening up about the personal challenges facing her home.
In the poem, the girl urged Ruto to stay resilient in the face of criticism and political insults, telling him not to feel intimidated, threatened, or shaken.
She encouraged him to hold his ground by drawing a comparison to the biblical King David, and she invoked God’s promise that his path would lead toward prosperity and hope.
The girl also referenced the names and chants directed at the president, including “Kasongo” and “Ruto must go”, before advising him to listen but allow the criticism to pass.
The poem read:
“Babu William, before I offer you a gift, let me recite for you a poem. Babu William, I have a word. Even though I am a young child, a word from a child carries great strength. Do not be intimidated, do not be threatened, and do not be shaken. Even though you might be called names like Kasongo, one term, Ruto must go, and many others that you will be called, stay strong; listen with one ear and let it pass through the other. Stand firm like King David. God has good plans for you, plans to prosper, not to harm you, but to give you hope. Thank you, our leader who has been anointed.”
Upon finishing her poem, the visibly distressed girl broke down in tears and told the president, “Mama yangu anateseka”.
Moved by her distress, President Ruto pulled out a white handkerchief to wipe away his own tears before reaching over to wipe the young girl’s eyes. He then embraced her in a brief moment of comfort before the gathered crowd.

Wednesday, September 9 – Bomet County
President Ruto kicked off his tour by laying the foundation stone for the Kapkwen Modern Market. He then visited Itembe Airstrip and the Bomet Mother & Child Hospital before proceeding to Bomet Town to inspect ongoing road projects and Affordable Housing Programme developments.
Ruto also handed over keys to 220 homeowners at the newly built Bomet Affordable Housing Project Estate Phase One in Bomet East Constituency.
He concluded the day with public engagements at Tegat in Bomet East and Mindililwet in Soin Sigowet.
Thursday, September 10 – Kipkelion East, Bureti, Sotik
The itinerary continues with scheduled visits to Furaha in Kipkelion East, Rungut Primary School in Bureti, and Kapkatet Stadium. Later in the day, the president will make stops at Kiplokyi in Bomet Central and Kamureito in Sotik.
Friday, September 11 – Kipkelion West, Ainamoi, Konoin
On the third day, President Ruto is expected to conduct engagements at Kokwet in Kipkelion West, Kapsoit in Ainamoi, and Torit Junction before proceeding to Boito in Konoin.
Saturday, September 12 – Chebunyo & Kericho Town
The president will wrap up his four-day itinerary with a visit to Chebunyo in Bomet before concluding the regional tour in Kericho Town.
