The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has refuted viral media claims that its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, reached a political deal with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 20, 2026, WPF spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru said the two leaders had not signed any exclusive agreement. He dismissed media reports that implied the alleged political pact had been finalized.
“The Wiper Patriotic Front has noted media reports, including those carried by The Star, suggesting that a political deal has been concluded between H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka and H.E. Rigathi Gachagua. We wish to set the record straight: no such exclusive deal exists,” Njiru said.
The denial followed a meeting held on August 17 at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence, which brought together Wiper (WPF) Members of Parliament and Senators.
Wiper said Gachagua called the meeting as a gesture of appreciation to the legislators for standing with him during his impeachment.
“The meeting held on 17th August 2026 at the Wamunyoro Residence was convened by H.E. Rigathi Gachagua to thank WPF Members of Parliament and Senators for the solidarity they showed him during his impeachment,” the statement said.
The party said its engagement with Gachagua and other opposition figures should not be read as evidence that it has concluded a presidential power-sharing agreement.
WPF said it remains committed to working with its sister parties under the United Alternative Government In Waiting, an opposition coalition aiming to challenge President William Ruto’s administration in the 2027 elections. It added that talks on the coalition’s leadership and political strategy will continue through consultations involving all parties.
“WPF remains committed to building a strong, principled coalition with its sister parties in the United Alternative Government In Waiting,” Njiru said.
He added that the process will be guided by “open, transparent, and inclusive engagement,” and will focus on shared democratic values and the interests of Kenyans.
