Public transport operator Super Metro has strongly refuted claims by Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina that it deployed its buses to transport individuals to disrupt an event held by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Kirinyaga on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
In an official clarification released on Monday, the transport firm distanced itself from the political dispute, stating that the buses spotted in the area were carrying secondary school students on a church-sponsored recreational outing to Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu Constituency.
According to statements from both the transport company and AIC Church Ziwani Nairobi, the passengers were secondary school students participating in a scheduled nature hike organized under the church’s Christian Youth in Action (CYA) program.
“The AIC Church Ziwani Nairobi has clarified that the buses spotted in Kirinyaga were carrying secondary school boys and girls who were heading for a hike at Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu constituency. The youths had no connection to political activities amid earlier claims that the buses were carrying people brought in to cause havoc at Rigathi Gachagua’s meetings,” Super Metro stated in its response.
The public denial follows remarks made on Sunday by Representative Maina, who publicly questioned the presence of three Super Metro buses in Kirinyaga and accused the government of orchestrating a plot to disrupt Gachagua’s public engagements.
In a social media statement directly addressing the transport operator, Maina wrote, “Super Metro!!! I see you have transported Kasongo’s goons to Kirinyaga to wreak havoc at Riggy G’s meetings. As we legally come for the local organisers and facilitators, we shall also hold you legally culpable for aiding and abetting any violence that happens at any of the meetings today!!”
Super Metro maintained that its vehicles were hired strictly for legitimate private transport by the church group, confirming that the young passengers had no involvement in local political gatherings.
