Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused two police officers attached to the Kikuyu Police Station of accepting payment to assassinate him, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i during a political rally in Kikuyu earlier this year.
Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence during a meeting with leaders from Murang’a County, the former Deputy President stated that officers stationed at the Kikuyu station leaked details of the alleged plot to him.
Gachagua further accused Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin of protecting the implicated officers and blocking internal investigations despite repeated complaints.
“They have told me that there are two police officers who killed Kyalo Mbobu because of land. Recently, they also killed Dr. Victoria Mutiso over the same issue. Those two police officers are from the same tribe as Ruto and Murkomen,” Gachagua claimed, directly linking the officers to unresolved murders in Nairobi.
He insisted that these same officers were deployed to eliminate top opposition figures during the Kikuyu rally.
“The day we were attacked with Kalonzo and Matiang’i, these two police officers from Kikuyu Police Station were the ones paid to kill me, Matiang’i and Kalonzo. In Kikuyu Police Station is where they killed that lawyer and killed this doctor Victoria Mutiso,” he alleged.
Beyond the assassination claims, Gachagua criticized the National Police Service (NPS) for regional and ethnic bias. He alleged that command positions across Nairobi are disproportionately held by officers from President William Ruto’s ethnic community.
“The police service has been ethnicised; you have seen Nairobi OCS, OC Crime almost all, OCPD all are from Ruto’s tribe and are the ones used and work with goons,” he opined.
Gachagua concluded by accusing Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of weaponizing the police service for political gain, claiming rank-and-file officers have voiced frustration over being forced to coordinate with criminal gangs.
