Trans Nzoia Governor and DAP Kenya deputy leader George Natembeya announced that he has left the party, citing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, July 8, Natembeya said his decision followed disagreement with DAP Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa.
Natembeya explained that Wamalwa declined his request to help expand DAP-K from a regional outfit into a broader national movement. He added: “I requested Hon. Eugene Wamalwa to grant me the opportunity to expand DAP-K into a broader national movement. Unfortunately, he declined. Consequently, I have no other option but to quit.”
Natembeya’s decision came days after he hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders at his Trans Nzoia home.
During the meeting on July 5, the leaders agreed to form a new political outfit ahead of the 2027 elections, and they said they would use the platform to win support from Kenyans at the polls. Sources close to the leaders added that community elders from the western region attended, while participants outlined a political roadmap for the area and how the movement planned to move into the election period.
Natembeya said the leaders backed Sifuna to contest for the presidency in 2027, while he would focus on securing a second term as Trans Nzoia governor.
Political strategist Pauline Njoroge, who also serves as a member of Linda Mwananchi, said the roadmap would start with a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Trans Nzoia on July 25 and then move to a major rally in Bungoma County on July 26, where Sifuna would receive a leadership endorsement before he shifted attention to his national campaign.
“The roadmap will begin with a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Trans Nzoia on July 25, followed by the mother of all rallies in Bungoma County on July 26, where Edwin Sifuna will be crowned the Luhya leader before being released to focus on his national campaign,” Njoroge said.
