CITAM Schools Grade 9 Learner Dies After Rooftop Fall as DCI Launches Probe | BossNana International Radio

A Grade 9 learner at CITAM Schools Ngong died on Monday morning after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a school building, a development that led police to launch investigations into the incident.

The school later confirmed the tragedy, saying it occurred on June 13, in a statement shared with parents and guardians.

In the statement, CITAM Schools said the Head of School and members of staff responded immediately after the learner fell.

The school added that the student received urgent medical attention before staff rushed her to Karen Hospital in consultation with her parents, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. CITAM Schools said it reported the incident to Ngong Police Station shortly after it happened.

The institution also stated that it is working with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other relevant authorities as the investigations continue.

“Following the incident, the school administration proceeded to Ngong Police Station to officially report the matter. We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” the statement read.

Further, the school said it will provide professional counselling and pastoral support to the bereaved family as well as to learners and staff affected by the tragedy.

The circumstances surrounding the learner’s death, however, remain unclear. Reports circulating online claim the family has disputed unverified allegations of suicide and continues to seek answers about what happened.

In its statement, CITAM Schools urged community members to avoid speculation and to refrain from sharing unverified information while police investigations determine the events leading up to the fatal incident.

“We respectfully request all members of our school community to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information, whether in person or on social media, out of respect for the bereaved family and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations,” the statement read.

The incident has also renewed concern after similar tragedies were reported in other schools. This includes the recent death of a Grade 9 student at Lakewood Private School in Utawala, where a postmortem reportedly found he died from severe blunt force trauma consistent with a fall from height.

Elsewhere, a 16-year-old Grade 10 student at Thika High School died on the night of July 10, 2026, after a physical confrontation with a fellow student. Preliminary reports indicate the dispute began after a disagreement reportedly linked to Friday evening prayers.

The accounts further state that the students argued over who would lead the evening prayers before they retired to their dormitory. The situation reportedly escalated when the fellow Grade 10 student aged 17 allegedly threw the deceased from the first floor of a school building, causing him to hit the ground floor and sustain fatal injuries.

The deceased, Mohamed Hare, was rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police arrested the other student as investigations continue.
