Gachagua Claims Ruto Told Him He Wanted to Be Richer Than Kenyatta and Moi Families | BossNana International Radio

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that President William Ruto once confided in him about his ambition to accumulate wealth surpassing some of Kenya’s most influential and affluent families.

Speaking while on a political tour in the United Kingdom, Gachagua claimed that during a period when he still maintained close relations with the president, Ruto disclosed his intention to become richer than both the Kenyatta and Moi families.

The Kenyatta and Moi families are widely regarded as holding vast generational wealth, rooted in the legacies of founding President Jomo Kenyatta and his successor, former President Daniel Arap Moi.

“The president came to look for wealth, and in the process he has destroyed the country. He is wealthy, and I remember, when we were in good books, he told me that in 5 years he wants to be richer than the families of Kenyatta and Moi combined,” he said in an interview with Kenya Newsline.

He claimed that President Ruto has already achieved that massive financial goal in just four years but alleged it has come at a steep cost to the public, effectively running national resources dry.

“It looked like a tall order to me, and he said that he will be. Today, it is true that he is richer than both families, but in the process, he has destroyed everything,” Gachagua asserted.

The former deputy president argued that a significant number of political figures fail to honor their promises because they view elective seats purely as a personal cash cow, abandoning their true responsibilities the moment they get into office.

Leadership is a calling and not a ladder to wealth. It is not a formula for richness; it is about service. That is why you find many leaders who came to Parliament to look for wealth will not be re-elected,” he stated.

Being a prominent figure within the United Opposition, Gachagua warned that guiding the country toward economic and social recovery will be a massive, uphill battle for the next administration.

“Even as we are looking for leadership we will have a difficult time because we will have to start from scratch to restore Kenya,” he stated.
