Gachagua Claims DCI Is Hiding CCTV Footage in Rev Ndumia Murder Case | BossNana International Radio

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua used the funeral service of Reverend Julius Ndumia on Monday, May 11, to launch a pointed attack on the investigation into the clergyman’s killing, alleging that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is sitting on CCTV footage that captured the murder and refusing to release it to the public.

Speaking at the service for Rev Ndumia, who was killed on the night of May 3, 2026, after attackers broke into the PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru, Gachagua claimed that investigators already know what happened. and that the footage shows the killers spent three full hours inside the church premises during the attack.

“The footage shows that the killers were acting between 1 a.m and 4 a.m. The DCI in Nakuru are holding onto the footage and should release it so that the family and Kenyans can watch it as you continue with your investigations,” he said, arguing that church members and local residents could help identify the suspects if authorities made the video public.

Wrong People Behind Bars, Gachagua Suggests

The former deputy president went further, raising serious doubts about whether the two people currently facing murder charges are actually responsible for Rev. Ndumia’s death. Gachagua suggested the arrested man and woman may be innocent Kenyans who simply came into possession of the deceased’s belongings after the real killers fled.

“The young lady and gentleman arrested were only found with the late Ndumia’s phone. Those who killed him dumped the phone and ran away. Where are those who killed him?” he posed.

Gachagua also pointed his criticism at the broader government response to the killing, noting that senior security officials have yet to make any public statement about one of the most shocking attacks on a religious leader in recent memory. That silence, he argued, has sent a chilling message to clergy members across the country.

He challenged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the Inspector General of Police to act swiftly and restore confidence among religious communities. He also called on President William Ruto to personally guarantee the safety of clergy nationwide and made clear that the government’s KSh2 million donation to the family alone falls well short of what the murder demands.

Gachagua’s also targeted what he described as a betrayal of the institution that helped carry President Ruto to power. He accused his former boss of turning against the church, highlighting how central religious endorsements were to Ruto’s 2022 presidential campaign.

The killing of Rev Ndumia has drawn widespread outrage across Kenya, particularly among religious communities who see it as an attack not just on one man but on the safety and sanctity of places of worship.
