Nyandarua Senator John Methu has dropped a political bombshell, claiming that President William Ruto’s administration tried to lure him into the government with Cabinet Secretary (CS) positions.
During an exclusive interview with Kameme FM on Monday, April 27, 2026, the senator described these overtures as politically motivated tactics designed to soften his stance rather than a sincere effort to drive national development.
Methu revealed that several emissaries linked to the president approached him on multiple occasions. According to the senator, these envoys pressured him to drop his critical political position and become more accommodating to the Executive. He suggested that the offers appeared to be a form of political compromise, specifically targeting his personal financial situation as leverage.
“They say to me, ‘Why did you clash with this person? Why can’t you talk? You know your problems with your loans, and there are other problems, and this person wants to assist you to give you a ministry you can choose between, the Ministry of Water and Agriculture. The government is huge,” Methu said.
Senator Methu further characterized these offers as a strategic attempt to bypass national priorities in favor of buying political loyalty. He accused senior leadership of using high-ranking positions and financial incentives as a “bribery” tactic to silence critics and consolidate power, rather than focusing on the needs of the Kenyan public.
In a startling escalation of his claims, Methu alleged that he was offered KSh 50 million to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He described this as part of a broader, well-funded effort to manipulate lawmakers during the high-stakes debate.
According to Methu, unnamed political actors used a combination of cash and intense pressure to ensure a government-friendly outcome.
“I was promised Ksh 50M during Rigathi’s impeachment as deputy president,” Methu stated, asserting that he rejected the offer to remain true to his convictions.
The senator, who has positioned himself as a vocal ally of Gachagua, argued that the process to remove the former Deputy President was fueled by factional infighting rather than a genuine pursuit of good governance. He claimed that despite Gachagua’s instrumental role in building the Kenya Kwanza administration, he was unfairly ostracized.
