Truphena Officially Breaks Guinness World Record with 72-Hour Tree Hug | BossNana International Radio

Kenya’s environmental champion Truphena Muthoni has officially entered the Guinness World Records after hugging a tree for an astonishing 72 consecutive hours, surpassing her own previous record.

The record-breaking feat took place on December 11 in Nyeri County, where Muthoni endured cold, rainy nights and long, monotonous days without taking a break to secure the title.

Guinness World Records confirmed that Muthoni eclipsed the previous 48-hour mark, which she had set herself earlier in 2025.

“Longest marathon hugging a tree — 72 hours by @truphena_muthoni,” the organization announced on its official social media platforms.

The record attempt reflected Muthoni’s mission to “elevate and advocate for the protection of Indigenous trees and to honor the wisdom of Indigenous peoples,” according to Guinness World Records.

Conservation Through Love: The Philosophy Behind the Record

Muthoni has since earned national acclaim for her work promoting reforestation and safeguarding Kenya’s indigenous tree species.

In a previous interview, she explained the philosophy behind her activism:

“I am doing this to encourage people to fall in love with nature, so that they do not hurt nature,” she said. “I believe that conservation begins with love, and that we must nurture a million trees before we plant a million trees.”

Her work consistently challenges the indiscriminate felling of native trees and encourages community-led conservation initiatives across the country.

Presidential Recognition and National Honors

Muthoni’s environmental impact has drawn attention from Kenya’s highest offices. On December 15, President William Ruto appointed her as an ambassador for the country’s ambitious 15-billion-tree planting campaign, lauding her courage, resilience, and leadership in environmental conservation.

“As a mark of national honour for her exemplary service to environmental stewardship, I have conferred upon Truphena Muthoni the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal,” President Ruto said.

The President also announced that the Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Tourism Board will sponsor a holiday experience for Muthoni and her team, recognizing their dedication to protecting the environment.

Additionally, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry will support Muthoni’s plan to visit Brazil, providing an opportunity to gain exposure to global conservation initiatives and strengthen her environmental leadership on the international stage.
