The National Police Service (NPS) has officially announced the commencement of its 2025 nationwide recruitment exercise for Police Constables, inviting qualified Kenyans to apply and serve in the security forces.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho confirmed that the recruitment will be carried out in all counties on Monday, November 17, 2025, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The announcement follows weeks of legal wrangling between the NPS and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) over who holds the authority to conduct the exercise. Earlier, NPSC had set recruitment dates from October 3 to October 9, 2025, but the Employment and Labour Relations Court issued a temporary order on October 2 halting the process.
Later, on October 30, 2025, the High Court ruled that the recruitment mandate lies solely with the NPS, declaring NPSC’s earlier advertisement unconstitutional.
According to NPS, the applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possessing a valid National Identity Card and having attained a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
Candidates are also required to have no criminal record or pending charges and must meet the service’s physical standards: males should be at least 1.7 meters (5ft 8in) tall, while females must be 1.6 meters (5ft 3in) or taller. All candidates are also supposed to be physically and mentally fit; in addition, the women candidates should not be pregnant during recruitment or up to the end of training.
The NPS further encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the criteria to apply, noting that preference will be given to those rated at least “Good” in conduct.
Inspector General Kanja also cautioned against corruption, warning that the recruitment exercise is free and merit-based, urging Kenyans to report any bribery attempts during the process.
