The Kenya Revenue Authority has introduced a new Automated Payment Plan aimed at easing the financial burden on taxpayers struggling to clear outstanding tax liabilities.
Starting November 7, 2025, the APP allows the eligible taxpayer to pay the principal tax, penalties, and interest in structured monthly instalments over a six-month period rather than as a lump sum. The initiative is part of KRA’s sustained efforts to enhance compliance and convenience in tax administration.
Taxpayers may also submit payment proposals through iTax and other KRA online platforms, which the system will automatically validate. This structured approach gives taxpayers an opportunity to manage their arrears without destabilizing their finances.
Eligibility and Compliance Requirements
To qualify for the APP, taxpayers must meet specific criteria outlined by KRA. They must:
- Hold valid KRA PINs and maintain an active iTax profile.
- Have confirmed tax liabilities that are not under objection, appeal, or litigation.
- Demonstrate financial constraints that prevent full payment in a single transaction.
- Submit a proposed instalment schedule via iTax or approved KRA portals, ensuring it does not exceed six months.
KRA also stressed the importance of adhering to the agreed repayment plan. “Failure to adhere to the agreed payment schedule may lead to termination of the plan and trigger enforcement actions. These may include revocation of the Tax Compliance Certificate and other legal recovery measures,” the notice warned.
Support and Advisory
KRA has set up dedicated support channels for taxpayers seeking help. Individuals can dial *222# for free assistance or visit www.kra.go.ke for further guidance.
A disclaimer in the notice reminds taxpayers: “KRA notifies taxpayers that it will not accept responsibility for payments not received, credited, and validated in the relevant KRA accounts.”
The launch of the Automated Payment Plan marks a major milestone in KRA’s digital transformation, offering taxpayers structured relief while reinforcing the importance of voluntary tax compliance.
